Our Story
Caritas Food Pantry was started by Richard and Shirley Petroski in 2006,together with joined parishes of St. Mary’s of Custer Michigan and St. Jerome’s Catholic church of Scottville Michigan. It began in a small room of the rectory at the now-closed St. Jerome’s Church. The name, Caritas, is a Latin noun that means "Christian love of humankind; charity".
The pantry grew and remained at this location until 2014 when the old facility had proven to be inefficient and non-handicap accessible.
This is when St Jerome's, which was built and served the Scottville community since 1912 closed its doors.
When Mason County Eastern Schools moved its early childhood development classrooms out of the St. Mary’s School complex, it opened the opportunity for the parish to open a fellowship center and also to utilize one of the former classrooms for Caritas food pantry.
Kelly Glover became the director of the pantry in 2011, and continues the tradition of servicing all who enter our doors!
